About The Race

The Barberton XCM Mountain bike challenge grew over the years to become one of the toughest, if not THE toughest one-day mountain bike race that South Africa, Mpumalanga or the Lowveld has to offer, hence the slogan – NOT AS DELICATE AS A DAISY! This “not so delicate” race will be a rude awakening for those who over indulged in eating all the Festive Season treats rather than spending some time on the saddle. The race is open to cyclists of all ages, shapes and sizes, unfit, fit and super fit! The race will consist out of five routes

Five race categories:

  • Fun Ride of 20km

  • Half Marathon of 30km

  • Half Marathon of 50km

  • Full Marathon of 77km

  • Ultra Marathon of 110km

All races will start and end at the Barberton High School sports fields. With a festival-like atmosphere, there is much for the fans and supporters to do whilst waiting for the cyclists to return from their thrilling adventure ride which includes food and drink stalls and a beer tent. Mountain biking in the Lowveld can’t get better than this!

This incredibly scenic trail will take you through a variety of landscapes and Heritage sites including some of the worlds’ oldest rocks, up to 3.5 billion years old, passing the Makhonjwa and Lebombo mountains where you can enjoy majestic views over the De Kaap valley (nobody will even know that you were actually catching your breath) and through a number of wildlife estates. Race cut-off times to be communicated prior to the race.
